My Experience: I visted Mandy and Pat for 3 weeks after hearing about MHS from a friend who had also volunteered. I started the 3 weeks feeling a bit nervous and was busy trying to take in all of the fabulous things I was doing. The wonderful scenery, great beaches and of course the most amazing people and horses! It took about 2 weeks for me to feel i had an idea what I was doing! Mandy was so patient with me and so welcoming that it never seemed an issue. Some of my duties included helping teach riding lessons to the fab local kids and adults, giving a reminder session with the grooms to help them with handling and leading the horses. I also took a few rides out and helped the more advanced riders go for nice canters down the beach. I had a great time making soaps with Mandy and found it real therapy away from my hectic life in the UK. I got a real feel for life in Vilanculos and the daily struggles Mandy and Pat have just to keep the horses safe and well. It amazed me how they have adapted keeping the horses in the dry conditions. All the horses are beautiful and welfare of them and their volunteers is paramount.
I cant wait to go back!
